What is a good way to make sure stains come out when washing in cold water?

I pre-treat stains with spray-n-wash and let it work for a few minutes BEFORE I start the washing machine. I use Tide for COLD WATER and sometimes I put in some Oxy Clean. I believe using cold water saves money. What is a good way to make sure stains come out when washing in cold water?
Get them out before washing the clothes. Pre-treat then rinse in the sink to see if it worked. Otherwise, get a crystal ball and see if that works. What is a good way to make sure stains come out when washing in cold water?
wash in cold water with normal detergent for the clothes and let the clothes air dry or else the stain will dry in.

  • When I turn on my clothes washing machine (Maytag) the water does not come in the tub, how to repair it?

    Sounds like the ';pressure system control';

If no water enters the washing machine, but the drum starts turning (as though washing normally) then you should stop the washing machine as there may be a fault in the pressure system that controls the levels of water. This fault can cause the timer to receive a false signal that water is already in the washing machine and the heater may be energized. This can damage the heater or burn the clothes inside. A blocked pressure chamber can trap air in the pressure tubing and leave the pressure switch on. If this happens, when you put the washing machine onto a wash program it doesn't take any water in and starts washing because it things there is water inside. This fault should also prevent the washing machine going into spin though too.

It is a complex repair...I would suggest calling a professional. When I turn on my clothes washing machine (Maytag) the water does not come in the tub, how to repair it?
If both hot and cold stopped running then I would assume the valve needs to be replaced.....providing the washer has power running to it.

If the water trickled in over a period of time...I would suggest removing the hoses from the back and cleaning the filter screens in the valves.

Good LuckWhen I turn on my clothes washing machine (Maytag) the water does not come in the tub, how to repair it?
your line may be cloged or turned off. try calling the company and resort to your manual to troubleshoot. also there are repair manuals you can buy or check out at the library
assuming you have a water supply turn the water off remove the hose and check that the sreen in the hose is not pluged this is very common in areas with hard water supply!!
Probably the pump that lets the water in is bad.

Water from the washing machine comes out through the kitchen sink sometimes , is that easy to fix?

im considering moving into a suite that i had once lived in and it has that problem help!Water from the washing machine comes out through the kitchen sink sometimes , is that easy to fix?
Normal water pressure is 40 pounds but a washer pumps water out at nearly 70 pounds. It's possible that the lines are partially clogged or that the vent is plugged up.Either way its not a serious issue. Either snake the lines or leave it be.Water from the washing machine comes out through the kitchen sink sometimes , is that easy to fix?
The drain for the washer is getting clogged and can't handle the high volume of drain water on the washers drain cycle. Easy Fix: Try a drain cleaner first. if that doesn't help. try a drain ';snake'; to remove the sludge from the inside of the pipe.

How do I unclog the water line in my washing machine?

I rented a house for a short time(3 months) that had sand coming up with the well water.I always wash in cold water, so the cold line is cloged. how can i fix this? How do I unclog the water line in my washing machine?
There are screens on the inlets of the hot and cold on the back of the washing machine. Turn the water off and unscrew the cold, clean the screen out.How do I unclog the water line in my washing machine?
unscrew the line from the faucet there is a screen inside the end that you unscrew clean out the screen or replace it and put the hose back on turn the water back on and your good to go. I have well water and I have to do this about every 6 months or so. Best of luck.
Your line should twist off at the faucet end, and slide off on the back of washing machine end, then just rinse it outside with water hose.
A lot of washing machines also have a screen where the hose attaches to the washer. Check this also.

no, darling. but if you don't know the answer to this question, you should educate yourself better on the topic of safe SEX, sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy, and myths about sex, sexuality, and pregnancy.

you don't want to get a girl pregnant unless you mean to have children. and, you don't want to accidentally get some sort of horrible disease like AIDS or chlamydia or something. Will semen stay alive after it makes contact with my underwear and gets washed with soap and water?

Whats your method of washing face what water comes first what last how do u use?

i really would like some help on how to use aw et cloth for the faceWhats your method of washing face what water comes first what last how do u use?
Ok...I wash my face twice a day, in the morning and right before I go to bed. What I do in steps are:

    - Take soap and rub it onto hands w/o rinsing

    - Rub the palms of my hands together

    - Take the soap on my hands and massage it onto my face gently

    - Wait for aout 1-15 minutes [w/e suits u the best]

    - Rinse

    Part 2 opt

    - Take Neutrogina soap and rub it in ur hands

    - Rub the palms of ur hands together

    - Take the Neutrogina soap and put it onto ur face

    - Rinse

If you want to do Part 2 right after the first part, then u would have to go to a local store, even a grocery store, and buy Neutrogina...of any type. Be sure not to get it in ur eyes, though...I did that on accident, and it HURT.Whats your method of washing face what water comes first what last how do u use?
first wash when you get up ,should be very cold water only.as this rejuvenates and tones up the skin better than warm water .it also prevents you from getting /or increasing any facial wrinkles.just like you would use an ice pack to reduce swelling and bruising for a black eye.try it.
I don't use soap and water on my face as I find it causes a rash, I use cotton wool with witch hazel sprayed onto it, or a cream cleanser and toner. Many people use two different flannels one for the face and the other for the rest of their bodies.
I use a very hot steaming face cloth to open my pores with

plain water, then I use a facial cleansing sponge with Oil of Olay cleansing soap applied to it. It really smooths and refreshes my skin, after that I splash with witch-hazel to tone

    and revitalize my face.
    er...

its just water, soap and a cloth. what do you need help with?
I use those Oil of Olay single use cloths. They are gorgeous!
Wet face with a hot wet flannel. Then wash with simple soap or face wash. Then rinse with hot water. Then rinse again with hot water. Then rinse with a cold wet flannel.
    WATER !!!! ??
    why cant u spell?
I use a facial cleanser, and first rub that all over my face, then I rinse with clear water from the tap, then use a damp washcloth to exfoliate and make sure the makeup, is off. I rinse the cloth and do this once more. Pat dry my face and neck area. If using toner, I spritz it on, or apply with a cottonball as I have used both. Let this air dry, and apply the next step. In most cases it is the sunscreen moisturizer, let dry then apply your makeup if you are using any.
you really need some help with your grammar.

Of course your question is that of a troll, but seriously, there's no such thing as ';holy water';. There is no ';holy water'; anywhere in the Bible. At least if you're going to try to make a joke on another, have some accuracy.
    I use vinegar.
It would have to be tap water (or perhaps spring water) because holy water is Catholic, and creationists are almost all protestant.
Who believes in holy water anyways? there is no such thing as holy water. I believe in God 100% and farther but, holy water, PUH-LESE!!!!

Creationism is a at the same time true and a mistake because they realy think that it happens in 6x24 hours.

    But Peter said ';Dont forget beloved that for God, a day may be thousand years and thousand years are worth one day';

This means that 1E-43 seconds (0. 0000000000000000000000000000000000000000鈥?sec.) which is the Big Band is The First Day and 9 Billion years from the appearance of the first unicellulars life to now is 1 day too...

The second mistake is that in Genesis, a translation error happend when they say that ';the spirit of God was over the water'; instead of the ';waves'; wich means the original radiation of the black matter composing 99.99% of the Universe.

The second mistake is that God created man before woman because the woman is XX and God took a rib af the woman to make of her a man wich is XY.

Jump on the washing machine brand's website. You should be able to google the makers phone number. Hope you get it fixed! =)My front load washing machine keep using hot water even when I choose cold temperature?
The mixing valve in the washer is broken. It will need to be replaced. Have a appliance repairman take a look at it.
You could turn off the hot faucet so it can only get cold water. That would at least indicate whether it attempts to draw cold.

Is better to wash facial skin with cold, warm, or hot water? ?

and why of course : )

thxIs better to wash facial skin with cold, warm, or hot water? ?
    Hi,

It is best to wash your face with warm water so that your facial cleanser can dissolve and your pores will be open enough to get cleaned out.

If you have problem skin with a lot of dirt in your pores, you can rinse a clean, white, wash cloth with really hot water and then hold it up about two to three inches from your face. The steam will open the pores and you have not damaged your skin with very hot water. Do not put it on your skin until it has cooled down and stopped steaming.

After the steaming process, use your cleanser and then follow up with a nice cool to cold rinse to close your pores. How often you do this of course depends on your skin type. The steaming is good for people that have very oily skin but you do not want to over wash your skin if you have dry skin problems.

If you are wondering why I specifically suggested a clean, white, wash cloth, it is because I tried a skin care regimen that required that you only use white wash cloths because there will won't be any dyes coming into contact with your skin. The regimen also required that you only use these cloths on your face and not any other part of your body. That is to prevent you from transferring bacteria from places like your arm pits that naturally have active bacteria.

The regimen and products worked so well for me that people commented on how healthy my skin looked all the time. I wish you the best. Is better to wash facial skin with cold, warm, or hot water? ?
    Warm.

Cold and Hot water doesn't really make a difference,

from what I sort of researched and heard from dermatologists.

    Doesn't open or closes pores.
Wash with warm water to open pores and rinse with cold water to close the pores.

How do I make my washing machine stop filling up with water?

I have a whirlpool washing machine and it is only about two years old. this winter the water pipe to it froze and ever since then, when I start to do a load of laundry, I have to manually turn the control to make it stop filling up with water. NOT just to change cycle, but to make the water stop pouring in. It would otherwise just pour over, I guess. Please help. How do I make my washing machine stop filling up with water?
it has a clear water pressure tube that runs up to a pressure switch this determines how high water fills to when u set dial to half or full load .the clear tube has ever fallen off or the switch is had it as machine is only 2 years old i would think hose has fallen off as this happened to mine at that age ,before refitting tube i put a bit of silicone around it to stop it coming off again because the first time it did it came off about a week later. How do I make my washing machine stop filling up with water?
Hi, you have something holding your fill valve open. It's gotten through the screen filters. So it will need to be replaced. Maybe if you had to repair some pipes, some solder may have made it to the fill valve. They are usually under $30. Just give them your model #.
    Hello Nurse:

This is a job for the professional repair person. The controls were damaged when the water froze. Call the pro.
it has water pressure tube and pressure switch.change both.
faulty valves are not closing, consult company support.

Does washing your fruit with water really clean them?

we are always told to wash our fruit and veggies before we eat them right?

but most of us just sprinkle some water over them and eat them.

lots of ppl touch them at the stores and i dont think water by itself cleans all their bacteria off.

BQ 2: so whats the point of washing your fruit? is there a special ';soap'; for this?Does washing your fruit with water really clean them?
Well, in a sense it does clean them and here's why.

With just water, you can remove large sediment and some water soluble chemicals (from w/e origin) from the fruit/veg, making it somewhat cleaner.

With the soaps for fruits/veggies, I'm not completely sure.. but I think it likely acts as an emulsifier which binds to certain particles/bacteria and makes them removable from the surface. Basically how hand soaps work.

Beo, it isn't that easy especially with some of the herb/pesticides because most are not water soluble (meaning water doesn't react with them.) This is why other chemicals (maybe an acid like ascorbic acid **Vitamin C**, acetic acid **Vinegar**,a base such as baking soda **Sodium Bicarbonate** ... and so on may need to be used.Does washing your fruit with water really clean them?
When it comes to washing veggies, most of us rely on good ol' water. Others use vinegar or soap, but are these techniques more effective? The folks at Cook's Illustrated magazine wanted to know and decided to put it all to the test.

In their test, they washed fruit with one of the following solutions:

    1. Antibacterial soap (not recommended as food safety experts think soap isn't something you should eat)

    2. One part vinegar and three parts water

    3. Scrubbing with a brush

    4. Plain water

Once they had washed their fruit, they then took a sterile cotton swab and rubbed it on the outside of the fruit. The grime collected on the swabs was then placed into Petri dishes and sat at 80F for several days.

Want to know what their results were? Find out, just read more

The best result was a solution of water and vinegar, which ended up removing 98 percent of the bacteria. Second was the scrub brush, which removed a tiny bit more than just water alone.

To achieve this level of cleanliness at home, spray the fruit with enough to coat the surface and then rinse it under the tap. Cook's Illustrated's editor Jack Bishop had this to say about it:

    ';The cold water will wash the residual flavor from the vinegar, and finishes the cleaning process. So it's a 30-second, 50-cent investment.';

What do you think? Will you use a vinegar solution to clean your fruits and veg?

BQ 2:yes there is kind of a sope called zell you can buy them from any fruit store

    hope this helped:)
Its not just people at the store touching them. When they are harvested, often the conditions in the field are less than sanitary. Many workers urinate and defecate right where the fruits and veggies are being picked, so no handwashing is going on. Many workers handle the produce, which is then loaded into trucks for transport, and goes through even more hands. So, YES, it is important to thoroughly wash fruits and veggies. Better yet, try to find local u-pick farms, so you reduce the amount of people handling your food. Even better, grow your own! I grow all of my own fruits and veggies. As for washing off pesticides, thats a moot point-you cannot rinse off pesticides-they are taken up in the fruit. Choosing organic helps, although some organic sprays contain high levels of MSG (Auxigro). Making a solution of baking soda and peroxide to wash produce with helps remove some of the germs, but will not remove all of the pesticides.
I wouldn't use any sort of soap or chemical to clean your produce unless you'd like to eat that soap or chemical.

If you're worried about bacteria wash your produce well, but that's all you can do, I'm curious if washing at all is a good idea though unless I see some sort of foreign substance, I mean just think about all the crap in our water, I'd gladly take immune system boosting bacteria over the crap in our tap(I didn't mean for this to rhyme). Also, if you're worried about bacteria I'd think you would be even more worried about chemicals, pesticides, etc, I assume you are purchasing organic?
If you're worried about chemicals then buy organic fruit and veg.

I buy organic and yes, I assume many people touch my food before I buy it but I'm not concerned. You're probably more exposed to bacteria and 'people germs' from your everyday practices. Most of these germs are actually good for your immune system. And most are killed in the cooking process anyway. I'd be more concerned about chemicals and buying organic will eliminate that problem.
Honestly, I don't see the point washing them and all that. Some (some) bacteria will get washed off like the way you said and it really makes no difference whether you sprinkle them with some water or not.

If they are fresh carrots of something than they must be washed because otherwise you will end up eating the mud they grew in.
there are special soaps, but I have read that they are not that great and that regular hand washing is best. When you wash your veggies and fruits, if they are hard give them a good scrub, but if they are soft, like plumbs, just use your fingers under running water to give them a gentle scrub.
yea but you can not wash the inside. just eat the thing and dont worry about it. if you cant clean the inside then you will get no where by just cleaning the outside.

the stuff they spray on the fruit goes in the ground that feeds the fruit , right?
I already asked this question. Somewhat.

    Somebody suggested Veggie Wash.

    Here it be:

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>

    That's a resolved question btw.
Just use water to rinse off the chemical stuff. This is how people have been doing for centuries. Don't use anymore chemical stuff. We're human. We're NOT robots. We eat nutrition. We DON'T eat chemical stuff.
You need to always wash your veggies. If it makes you feel better, you can use a little dish soap or vinegar or baking soda. It doesn't have to be boiling hot.
I wash mine with GreenWorks dish soap, but the people in cleaning and laundry told me that probably isn't the best idea. It hasn't killed me yet though lol.
I don't think washing is enough. To be sure I like to run mine through the dishwasher or washing machine with some extra bleach. It cleans and disinfects them.
    Yes.
    hot water will kill some of the germs. key word being ';some';

Will washing a white shirt in warm water cause colors to run?

I've got a new white t-shirt with some red color in it that is a touch too big. I'm trying to shrink it a little by washing it in warm water and then tossing it in the dryer.

Will this be an effective way to shrink it, without causing colors to run? What makes colors run anyway? Any other good tips on shrinking clothes like half a size? Will washing a white shirt in warm water cause colors to run?
I'd set your colors in cold water and salt first, and then after setting the colors, I'd try washing in hot water. If your colors do run after that, DO NOT PUT IN A DRYER, just soak your shirt in cool clear water, changing the water several times a day and after doing this for several days, the run color will be gone. Will washing a white shirt in warm water cause colors to run?
    Wash it in hot water.

    No, the colors won't run.

It depends on the material how much you can shrink it.
There are products on the market now that are called color guards, they are like dryer sheets that you drop in the Washing Machine and as the colors run they get caught in the sheets not in your clothes! I actually think one brand uses the trade name COLOR GUARD but I'm not sure, I am sure that they work!
shrinkage depend on the fabric of ur t-sgirt, u dnt have to wash it in warm water , as long as u dry it in a drier...

the colours run , are the ones that are vegetable dyes... as in if ur tshirt has sentetic dyes it wont run ...

Sometimes it hard to tel weither or not the colour will run. but if u not sure , dnt ever wash it with anything white :)

    good luck !
I'd wash it in the cold water and add some vinegar to the wash water. Most bright colours will run a bit in any temperature of water but they run less in cold water. And the vinegar also prevents the colours from running. Try adding vinegar when washing jeans if you want to keep them a crisp blue. I've done it with mine and it works great.

If you want to shrink it, put it in the dryer on a hotter setting than recommended. I don't know if it will shrink a whole size. That depends on the material.
Most clothes are bought pre-shrunk now adays, sorry. Just buy a smaller size. As for the color, all color will run a bit when the garment is new. There's just left over dye and stuff. It's inevitable.
tips on getting it down half a size..loosing weight.,..and just a tipp.. wah whites with white and colors with well. let me see. colors!!!

When a dishwasher is washing does it fill completely with water?

Does the unit completely fill with water to clean the dishes or is it just streams/jets of water that clean the dishes? When a dishwasher is washing does it fill completely with water?
streams and jets squirt on the dishes. it does not fill up.When a dishwasher is washing does it fill completely with water?
No. The water only covers the bottom of the tank with about 2-3 inches of water. The pump forces the water into the wash arms and it sprays out forcefully. As the water sprays out it also causes the wash arms and spray arms to rotate spraying the water forcefully onto the dishes and all over the inside of the tank. The water is then pumped out of the machine and refilled to the same level. When the detergent dispenser opens it sprays the detergent and it dissolves into the water and then sprays the soapy water onto the dishes then this water is pumped out and more water enters rinsing the dishes. Depending which cycle is selected the amount of times the machine fills and empties will vary.
    YOu must be a blond.......

    .

    . Yep you are.
That is the funniest question I think I have heard...haven't you ever opened the door to throw in that last utensil, or plate?? That would be a messy clean up if it filled all the way!
No. The bottom part below the door is the only place that fills with water. Just open it up in mid wash and you'll see.
    Look inside and see!

It fills to just below the lip at the bottom of your door. It then sucks that water into the pump and sprays it out the various nozzles to clean your dishes.
It fills completely with water. When my jacuzzi has leaves in it I just use the dishwasher!
    no
maybe it do, and maybe it don,t. da only way to know for sho is to replace the door with the door on your oven that has the w indow in it. be VERY CAREFUL when connecting the oven light.in case the door don,t perexactly fit you might have to borrow a small chain saw with a door cutting chain to trim it.
My dishwasher has 2 jet sprayers that the water comes out of, which then sprays the dishes. It works pretty good. No food left on anything.
it does fill up with water...the jets hit the dishes ';hoping'; they will hit every spot...
No, it is like a hot sprinkler system from the top and bottom only in hard jet streams to knock the food loose. Just so you know, you can open the door while it is running and water will not come pouring out, there will be steam though.
    no
Me no know stick your head inside and see
i think just the streams of water, atleast thats what they show on commercials
The answer is no. It is just streams and jets of water. Soapy water then rinse.

Whats the difference between washing clothes in cold and hot water?

Whats the difference between washing your clothes in cold water and washing them in hot waterWhats the difference between washing clothes in cold and hot water?
I only get cold water in my machine and find that I sometimes need to pretreat underarm deodorant smells and use the double rinse option.

With clothes I use the double rinse option because the clothes don't smell really clean, but it could be because I have soft water. With towels and sheets I just use one rinse.

My preference was always hot water, but this seems to work out okay and is saving money on the electric. You should always rinse with cold anyway as it supposedly gets the soap out better.

Hot water is bad for coloreds, they fade. It can also shrink clothes. Cold water works fine, just don't over-stuff the washer. The clothes need plenty of room to agitate. Liquid detergent, any brand, works.Whats the difference between washing clothes in cold and hot water?
Hot water will kill germs and help get rid of odors in towels and other laundry. Some things will shrink or fade in hot water, so check the labels before washing.
Hot water will shrink clothes ... and sometimes dull colors. However hot water will also kill germs.
some clothes due to the material ---shrink with cold water.

Hot water could dull the color.

  • Comparitive test for water softeners (Descaling agents) for washing mashines?

I was wondering if the Descaling agent for washing machines Calgon is so much more effective than other products with half the price or less (such as Carrefur or Lidl products). In a Calgon advertisment they say it's 3 times more effective. But can you believe them? Is there any consumer test site with such results?Comparitive test for water softeners (Descaling agents) for washing mashines?
Well, it costs as much as washing powder and the repairman told me always to use the recommended amount of detergent for your water hardness as it contains water softening agents. But if you want to save money, a good tip is replace 50gms of detergent with 50gms of washing soda which costs pennies in supermarkets and is a water softener. Excellent laundry results too.

Is it better to wash your face with cold or hot water? and why?

its better to wash with warm water first cause it opens ur pores up and gets all the dirt and oils and black heads and then its good to finish washing ur face with cold water because it closes ur pores back up! :)Is it better to wash your face with cold or hot water? and why?
Warm water. Is it better to wash your face with cold or hot water? and why?
first with warm water to open pores, then with cold water to close pores and feel fresh!!
You shouldn't wash your face with burning hot water, but it should be warm, not cold. Warm water kills germs better.
Cold water is best; using extremely hot water is not healthy, furthermore you will age faster by using hot water. As long as you are using a good facial cleanser to remove dirt, germs, and bacteria, the temp of the water does not matter. But cold is best, keeps the pores tight.
It is better to wash your face when you want your reward from the Lord, whatever It is.

It is said in the Gospels (which now we consider as a spiental book), and rightly so, that if you do something and then you make it known unto men, ';you already had your reward';.

This is fine, not a complaint.

If on the contrary you do something good, or you mourn, wash your face, and make it not apparent to men: then your reward won't be that of men.

Out of metaphor, if you do something good and you make it utterly unknown, this good will yield fruit within yourself and you will grow a better, and even maybe more glowing, person.

If you make it known unto men and you don't ';wash'; your face, ';you already had your reward';. As said, fine, if you want that reward. It is not argued it is bad: it is only argued that it's the reward of men, unreliable by definition.
Wash with hot and when you're done splash with cold water to close your pores
Wash your face with warm water, with your fingertips, moving in circles toward your nose. Use a toner and a moisturizer. Do this twice a day, and exfoliate once per week. And use at least SPF 25 (uva/uvb)
Warm, it kills germs better. Like they tell you to wash your hands with warm water and you shower with warm water.
Hot water opens the poors first then cold water to close the poors
my husband said cold, but i forgot why. but hotwater feels so much better to me
I would have to say cold, because hot water dries the skin. Of course, you could always go the medium and wash with lukewarm water. *wink*
Warm water, it opens your pores.
Splash hot water on your face to open up the pores. Then apple Noxzema and wash in warm water. Rinse in hot water, then rinse in cold water to close the pores. Apply Ponds Cold Cream and wipe with a soft tissue. Then apply Noxzema to the skin. This has been working for me since I was a teenager. I am 53 and people still think I'm in my late 30s.
    either its still water
    Hot water- to open pores

    Cold Water- to close pores

What is more water-effeicient: washing dishes by hand, or using the dishwasher?

It really depends on how the person washes their dishes. If you leave the water running the whole time and clean really thoroughly each piece of china, then the dishwasher is more efficient, but if you like to be Eco friendly and shut the water off while you are sponging your dishes, then doing them by hand is more efficient. Dishwashers take a lot of water, like 5-10 gallons. Also, they dont clean so thoroughly due to various reasons such as not using a high pressure nozzle to spray water. Ultimately washing them by hand is a better way to go because you get to choose how thorough you want to clean each dish, whereas a dish washer will clean each dish the same, so if there is one that is more soiled, occasionally not all of the dirt gets cleaned offWhat is more water-effeicient: washing dishes by hand, or using the dishwasher?
For most people, the answer is surprisingly the dishwasher. Of course, it depends on how much you are planning on washing in it, the efficiency of your dishwasher, and the efficiency of your hand washing abilities. But for most people, the dishwasher is the better choice. What is more water-effeicient: washing dishes by hand, or using the dishwasher?
Have you ever been camping? How much water do you heat up over a fire to wash your dishes? Growing up I had to carry drinking/wash water 1/4 mile every day. You can learn to use very little if you want washing by hand.
By hand, remember not to leave the water running the whole dishwashing time!
    Washing by hand
any dishwasher manual will tell you how much water that particular dishwasher uses and the answer will be very LITTLE water. On the other hand, a dishwasher consumes soap (no or almost no dishwasher soap is environment-friendly) and energy. Plenty of both! Vendors claim that dishwashers are environment friendly BECAUSE they use so little water, but they forget to mention the energy and soap. My advice is : dont run half full dishwasher and , when washing by hand, dont let the tap running and dont use unnecessary amount of soap
    It's up the washer.

7-10 gallons of water per cycle for a dishwasher, but I use only enough water that I need.

Check out the link, it is good.
Washing by hand, with two sinks you fill one up with hot soapy water to wash and the other with just hot water to rinse. You would save on electricity too.
Dishwasher but only if it is full.
JoeCool's got it. Like a shower compared to a bathtub, the dishwasher is very efficient and uses pressure and low quantities of water to wash dishes. In almost all cases, dishwasher uses less water.
    dishwasher
i htink hand washing is more conservative - you have total control how much you use at any one time.
I think the dishwasher is more water-efficient, but washing by hand more energy-efficient.
It all depends on the amount of dishes you wash and the energy efficiency of your dishwasher.

My dishwasher can hold a day's worth of dishes for our family; I use the short, air dry, energy saving cycle which consumes a total of 4 gallons. By contrast, washing %26amp; rinsing up a day's worth by hand would consume a minimum of 15 gallons.
I agree with ';liorrm';. It depends on how you wash your dishes if you are hand washing. In my house we use maybe 4 to 5 gal at most for all of our dishes for the entire day. Both of the sinks get plugged and one it for washing and the other is for rinsing. It is amazing how little water is used if you just plug the sinks.

***I have noticed no one has mentioned the use of water in pre-rinsing the dishes for the dishwasher. A lot of people do that, which means the dishwasher is using even more water then just what it uses for washing. ***
The dish washer takes resources to build, energy to run, and takes up precious space. Every one using a dish washer right now must stop.
For hand washing the dishes, it depends on how much water you use.

I think that the dishwasher uses less water, in my opinion

How much water does a regular sized washing machine take?

compared to like a regular sized bath tub..which takes more, the washing machine or the bath tub?How much water does a regular sized washing machine take?
the bath tub takes more but why would you want to do your washing in the bath tubHow much water does a regular sized washing machine take?
a top loader will take approx 30-35 gallons of water per wash and rinse cycle for a total of 60-70 gallons per wash. A front loader will use a lot less. 12-15 gallons per wash and rinse for a total of 24-30 gallons. This all depends on the size of the washing machine as smaller machines use less and larger mean more water. A bathtub now can really vary. Some will hold upwards of 50 gallons and it all depends on a lot of factors such as overflow drain level and style of tub.
a Washer top loading uses approximately 30 gallons of water A bathtub uses much more

No, it has to be at least warm, never cold.Would you wash your laundry in cold water....?
yep i wash all my color clothes in cold water it prevents shrinking and helps keep them from fading the only clothes i wash in warm or hot would be white clothes.I worked in a dry cleaners in the laundry department and i learned that almost anything can and will bleed if washed in warm water esp. clothes with red on them we once washed a joggin suit that was red and had a white stripe on the sides, in cold water and even in cold water it bled and turned the white stripe pink so i have learned to never trust anything with red on it.
Sure you can, use liquid detergent as they are almost all made to work just fine in cold water nowdays. You may occasionally want to wash your whites in hot with bleach to keep them white, but other than that there is no reason to use hot water.
It depends on what I'm watching. If I was watching delicate clothes like my dress clothes than I'll watched them in cold water but if I was watchingg my work clothes than I would preferred hot water because it helps to get the dirt out.

How do you go about unblocking a washing machine which is not draining water?

I washed a large bath rug in my washing machine and it is now refusing to drain. It seems that fluff has blocked it up.How do you go about unblocking a washing machine which is not draining water?
The agitator should pull up out of the machine (not easily, but it shouldn't take a crowbar either). Clean everything below it.

Unhook all the lines, and pull the machine away from the wall. Open up the back of it. Clean everything you can get access to--traps, filters, etc. Run a drain snake down inside of the drain hoses to clear out any obstructions. Close up the back and reconnect all the lines. Try running a small amount of water into the machine and then putting it on rinse or spin to see if you have cleared all of the obstructions.

If this doesn't help, then calling in a professional is your next step. How do you go about unblocking a washing machine which is not draining water?
It depends on your machine, but generally speaking you need to clear the filter. This is usually found at the front of the machine, on the bottom - either left or right hand side. It is frequently hidden behind a kick panel. This can be easily removed. If you're lucky enough to have a Bosh (or similar make) than you're laughing - as there should be both a filter and a small hose. Use the hose and a bowl to drain the machine, then clear the filter. Be warned, the water may be smelly and you will need some towels to soak up the spillage!
Could be fluff prob or the belt has come off drum. If ur handy at diy you can fix yourself but prob best to get someone out to see it. Have you tried taking blanket out of washer then trying the spin cycle?
clear out the fluff from the pump i would presume
oh,this happened to me several years ago,i found out too late i had to clean the filter every so often, though its first and last time i bought a machine that i had to do it manually,grrr..

It blew up my machine as the water couldn't drain,i heard a huge bang one afternoon, and went in to see my washing machine on fire, and happily burning my washing, and my kitchen.

My washer had a filter at the front of machine, but if you have handbook still go to filter page and it should tell you where it is,and how to clean, also you should have a what if... section for faults,it should have a filter solving thingy in that page. :):)
To initially drain the machine you need to disconnect the drain hose from the waste pipe and lay it lower than the machine - usually outside the back door is good. This will drain the water and allow you to clear the filter (usually at the front under a flap) without making a big mess on the floor.
Remove the hose and look to see if its clogged, you might have to look further than the hose. The next time you was a rug in the washer get a large pillow case and a twist tie and put it in there to wash. The rug will be clean and the lint will be in the pillow case which you can then turn inside out and throw lint away.

Also check you drain it might be clogged stopping the water flow.
Sometimes a small kink in the hose is enough to do the damage. I had the same problem and just pulling the machine out and pushing it back cleared it. Bit of a long shot though
    TRY SOME DRAINO
Check the filter, usually somewhere at the bottom, if this is clear and its still not working its the pump
I recently stuck my wet dry vac hose up to my washer's drain hose. It worked for me.
sounds like the drain hose to me. Detach the drain hose from the washer and use your water hose to flush it out, if that doesn't work, call a professional
I was gonna answer this, but looks like you have your answer!!

Is leaving the dish washing sponge in used detergent water build up mold?

My roommates are cheap and think that if we dont squeeze the used dish detergent after we wash the dishes and leave it in the dish and reuse. Does anybody know that if it build up mold?Is leaving the dish washing sponge in used detergent water build up mold?
Rinse and squeeze it out every time and let it dry out. At least once a week rinse it out good, get it good and full of clean water, set it on a plate and microwave it for three minutes to kill all the stuff that is growing in there. Let it cool off, rinse again and let it dry. One that's been left to soak is really GROSS!!!Is leaving the dish washing sponge in used detergent water build up mold?
It can sour in the water unless you have added something like a few drops of tea-tree oil, grape-seed extract, silver solution or a little peroxide - all of which kill germs and keep the water and sponge from souring. Even if you wring out the sponge each time, it can sour between washings if some of the above is not used in the water, or on the sponge.
Yuck! I don't know about the mold part, but it just doesn't seem sanitary! :) I always rinse mine in HOT water after doing dishes and then putting in microwave for 5 minutes. Then the sponge is ready to go the for the next day.

I read an article once that suggested doing this, as it is the only ';real'; way to kill all of the germs. It works better than bleach.
That is so nasty. The sponge has pours very big pours. As a capfull of bleach to the water. Nasty bacteria, yuck.

possibly, but that is a good idea.
Yes. I do them the same way (old fashioned way).
I do that all the time...kills germs...easier to clean.
I let my dishes soak all the time. And you are right. It is less work than having to scrub them. Faster too.
no, it makes it easier plus I get the water really hot so it kills the bacteria, wait about 10 minutes then clean em
    no i do too.
No. Thats how I was taught to wash dishes.

Your concern about your dishwasher using too much water might actually be backwards, especially if you drain the hot water and start with a fresh sink of dishwater before scrubbing. Even the most careful hand-washers tend to use too much water. And dishes are more sanitary from a dishwasher because the water is heated hotter than even your tap water via booster heaters inside the washer. To conserve energy don't use the dry setting on the washer. Just open the door and let them air dry after the rinse cycle.
My mom does the same thing. Hot water kills germs quicker than cold water.
Don't listen to those other people. You are the only person on the planet that does that. That makes you special. LOL.
Yes, soaking them is a good idea. Not sure about the water saving thing, I think dishwashers are water savers and usually there is a water and energy saver setting.

    Here's an article I found:

Study Proves Dishwashers Use Less Water Than Hand Washing

    By Martin Vedris

GERMANY: A recent study by Bonn University in Germany compared hand washing 140 items with the same load in a 12 place setting dishwasher and concluded that dishwashers consume about half the energy and a third of the water used.

The results showed that the hand wash used 63 litres and required 4.2 kilowatt-hours of energy to heat the water -considerably more than most dishwashers used.

In a statement provided to Current.com.au, Electrolux Home Products regulatory affairs manager, Ian Forte said the German research supported what many in the industry had advocated for years. He referred to the Electrolux Dishlex EX401 model which uses only 15.9 litres per wash and 0.64 kilowatt-hours of energy.

“We have invested a lot of time and effort to ensure the highest standards of energy and water efficiency in our dishwashers and, anecdotally, we are noticing more people appreciating the environmental advantages of using them,” Forte said.

“Certainly less people now believe in the old myth that dishwashers had a negative effect on the environment. In fact, the combination of their stylish design and quieter operating systems with proven water saving and energy efficiencies make our new dishwashers more appealing than ever.”

Saving time was another major benefit of dishwashers revealed by the Bonn study. It found that while it took 79 minutes to wash up 140 items by hand, it took an average of just 15 minutes to load and unload the dishwasher. This works out at a saving of 16 days a year.
i let my dishes soak a few minutes before i wash them depending on how dirty they are. so no, your not the only one.

No, I think that a lot of people do that.
I do the same, but with a cap full of bleach. I learned that at a CDC seminar.
I have always done the same thing...even when I didn't have a dishwasher
nope- i do it but my husband never does
Hot water is good to kill germs.
Yeah its a rockin awesome way to get everything loosened up before you have to start working on them.
I don't soak I just let the hot water run for five minutes

I have to do that anyway cause I have well water and the rust backs up not cause I an anti-environmentalist
I rinse off the dishes, when the dishwasher is completely full run it through. I'll rethink it, maybe it would be better for the environment with your method.

Any good, recommended moisterizer? Is it true that washing your face with cold water will keep you looking young?
    Totally not true.

Infact it makes your skin get dry faster, and it makes you wrinkle quicker. Is it true that washing your face with cold water will keep you looking young?
hot water or steam opens up your pores and cold water or really cold water (ice water) closes them. using cold water to rinse after first washing your face with hot water reduces the size of your pores which does help for a more youthful appearance short term but will not have that affect long term.
my sis says it closes up your pores. so i guess that's good. and jojoba oil is a good skin moisturizer, even for your face. i have acne and it really helps that too.
dont wash too much or u overdry your skin and it looks more older

maybe he thought cold water would shrink the pores and hot water would expand but dont think that will really help.

what will keep you young is lots and lots of sleep!
    This information is false.

well this happens to my friend alot and she says its because she has differently shaped ear canals and she also says that there is no prevention. jus tlet it happen and if/when it does (say its the right ear) jump on one foot (the right for the right ear left foot for left ear) and lightly tap right above your ear on the other side and that gets it out. it may take a bit but once u get used to it its a breeze... sorry i couldnt be more help!
Walmart has some cheap ear plugs in their pharmacy. If you don't want to spend any money, just put some kleenex to plug your ears while shampooing.

I'm doing a science experiment on removing stains on a t-shirt. I need to have an exact temperature for the water. Does anyone know how cold the water should be?How cold should water be when I'm washing something?
I would say between 35 to 65 degrees would be considered cold. That gives you a thirty degree range to work with. That is above freezing and below an average room temperature. Use a temp. right in the middle for your experiment of about 50 degrees.

When it says to remove stain in cold water, it is because warm or hot will set the stain. Fifty degree water is cold water and should not set the stain. How cold should water be when I'm washing something?
Do you know what type stains they are?

Different stains require different temperatures of water for effective stain removal. For instance, hot water is recommended for removing grass stains. But cold water only is recommended for removing blood stains.

There are websites which give more complete information regarding the proper water temperature for removing different types of stains. I've linked a few below.

Once you've deteremined what type stains you have and what temperature water to use, then you will need to know the approximate temperature of the water you use in treating and washing the t-shirt.

Assuming the t-shirt is washed in a washing machine, do you have the owner's manual for the washer? If so, it may tell what temps the cold, warm, and hot settings give.

IIRC, washing temperatures less than 60 - 65 degrees Fahrenheit are considered ineffective in cleaning clothes. I believe 65-75 degrees Fahrenheit is a 'cold' setting on a washing machine -- that warm temps would be 80-100 degrees Fahrenheit, and that hot water temps are 100-120. A temp of at least 140 degrees Fahrenheit is recommended for killing bacteria / sanitizing clothes.

If the t-shirt is handwashed, you can use an aquarium thermometer to determine the temperature of the water.

    Hope this helps!
Hot water is 130 degrees Farenheit (54.4 Celsius) or above. Warm water is between 110 and 90 degrees Farenheit ( 43.3-32.2 Celsius). Cold water is generally between 80 and 60 degrees Farenheit (26.7-15 Celsius). If cold water is below 60 degrees Farenheit (15 Celsius), clothes are unlikely to be cleaned very well.
I only use cold water if it's wool, silk, rayon, or had idigo dye. I oppose washing instructions and use warm because it cleans better. I haven't really had any problems. It seems that dryer heat is what damages fabrics the most. I take chances, though.

Do you think detergent enzymes are stable at temperatures found during a hot water cycle in a washing machine?

Are enzymes stable at temperatures found during the hot water cycle?Do you think detergent enzymes are stable at temperatures found during a hot water cycle in a washing machine?
They would not be put in the washing product is they were not stable at such temperatures. Some enzymes are stable right up to above 90 centigrade and the hot water in a washing machine is a lot cooler than that, generally no more than about 70 centigrade.

If hot water holds alot of bacteria, why do we wash our pans with it?

    and everything else!!!

    lol..

thx.If hot water holds alot of bacteria, why do we wash our pans with it?
Semi-solids dissolve faster under hot water. Also, it's assumed that you're using clean water and rinsing several times, so the bacteria go bubbye in the sink. If you used cooler water, it's not likely it would kill the bacteria in and of itself, and it wouldn't free as many lodged particles from the pan as hot water does. Also, that's why you should be using a soap or detergent of some sort.If hot water holds alot of bacteria, why do we wash our pans with it?
cuts grease better, and the soap kills off the bacteria
it holds less bacteria than cooler water and it dissolves solids much faster.----a good trick for cleaning pans that won't come clean is to put water in them with some baking soda and reheat the pan, this is great, it saves so much energy and rpobably alot of water too.
well...the closer you get to outside of the range of temps conducive to bacterial growth, the better. on the hotter side is always better because less bacteria can survive in hot temperatures vs. cold temperatures. to get to a cold temp outside of the danger zone (40-140 degrees F), you would be close to freezing. a person could stand 120 degrees at the most without burning themself by the water, which is why it's good to get some dish gloves so you can make the water hotter. dishwashers (the appliance) sanitize with even hotter water that's well above the danger zone temps. plus...if you get antibacterial dish soap, that takes care of bacteria while warm water helps wash the food from the dishes.

How do you get set in blood out of denim? I washed my denim in hot water and I used Tide bleach to go pen.?

I forgot hot water set in stains, it is quite a large stain so I want it out. My other problem is I am in college living in a dorm room with limited resources, for example I can't get meat tenderizer. How do you get set in blood out of denim? I washed my denim in hot water and I used Tide bleach to go pen.?
try soaking in milk overnight then rubwash well and rinse. How do you get set in blood out of denim? I washed my denim in hot water and I used Tide bleach to go pen.?
As soon as it stained you were supposed to wash it by hand. Then it would of come out. It will be hard now. You can try using Shout stain remover several time. It will fade or maybe go away.
    Try ';Tech Stain Remover.';

I've seen my mom use it to get stains (old and new) out of all sorts of things. You can find it at a hardware store.
Try oxy clean and leave it soaking over night , I know vinager gets rid of blood stains but not sure if it will change the color of your clothes
Its usually impossible to remove a blood stain if its been washed in hot water and then dried.
Could dry hydrogen Peroxide. But it may change the color of the denim so be careful!

Why is washing your hands with soap and water better than hand sanitizer?

Sanitizing is more convenient, but I've always heard the best way to wash hands is with soap and water. Why?Why is washing your hands with soap and water better than hand sanitizer?
Don't always go by what you've heard. Sanitizing and washing your hands with soap and water won't kill all the germs. Both methods are effective for keeping your hands clean. Why is washing your hands with soap and water better than hand sanitizer?
because sanitizers kill 99.9% of germs...and that little .01% continues to stay there and just keeps building up, until its a problem. another thing wrong with hand sanitizers is they make you more prone to germs anyway when used on a regular basis. they're okay if you only use them once in a while. soap and water is always much more effective.
Because the hand sanatizer kills every single bit of bacteria. And it is killing some of the good bacteria that helps you and our enviroment. And some of the good bacteria eats the bad bacteria but when you kill the good bacteria thats bad.
    you can't spread disease.

Plus hand sanitizer can't get rid of most of the germs that soap and water can get rid of.
the friction while washing is the most important -whether using sanitizer or soap %26amp; water.
I use earthworm feces, its most sanitary !

  • I wash my face with hot water.......?

Is it ok to wash your face with hot water?? does it damage the skin in any way or anything? it seems like my face does better if i wash it with hot water but not sure if its healthy in the long run.I wash my face with hot water.......?
I think luke warm water is okay, but not hot, hot water. It might ruin your skin in the long run. I'm not positive about this, but in my opinion, you should just use warm water and maybe face wash with it. =)I wash my face with hot water.......?
Well, skin experts recommend lukewarm water for face washing, but if hot water is doing the trick for you, keep at it. Just don't accidentally scald yourself and make sure you use a good oil-free moisturizer to make up for any dryness you might be causing with the temperature of the water.
I like warm water, but if it works for you then do it.
    Hello

washing your face with walm water is better than hot water, as hot water might damage your skin. Also hot water causes your pores to open so i would advise you splash your face with cold water after to close the pores, because when your pores are open they are prone to getting get clogged and that causes spots.
not good .it damages the soft skin in the long run
it's always best to wash your face with very warm water. hot water can cause broken capillaries. it can also dry and damage your skin in the long run. colder water won't clean better, that's true... but hot water is not good either.
It doesn't really matter....If you can tolorate the heat why not
Not HOT but warm will be OK
    it opens your pores
no it cleans your pores out
I wash my face with very hot water, It makes me feel fresh and clean, but I saw on E ';secrets of the stars'; that cold water is best.
    it cleans through your pores
yes it's ok. i wash mine with hot water, to open more pore's, then cold water to close them.
No it's better because it opens up your pores to get rid or more oil/dirt.
I wash my face with hot water. I think that it feels better than cold water and I think that it helps your pores too.

If I washed all my clothes in cold water?

I was wondering... is it possible to wash ALL of the clothes together in cold water without the color from the darker clothes going onto the lighter colored clothes? If I washed all my clothes in cold water?
Anything is possible, however, it really isn't advisable.

Remnants of dye loosen up with each washing. Black, navy, brown dyes will get into the water and discolor the lights. Maybe it won't be noticeable at first, but over time the pale yellow dish towel will look dingy, the white undershirt will look gray and the pink tee shirt just won't have the same luster.

Last, bedding and underwear ought to be washed in hot water for sanitary reasons. If I washed all my clothes in cold water?
Yes, you can wash all of your clothes in cold water, but no you can't wash all of your clothes together. No matter what the water temperature is, you'll get 'tattle-tale gray' whites and light colors. You have to sort those suckers if you want clean looking clothes, besides having clean clothes.
That's what I do. the only time you don't want to do it is when you have a new colored item. In that case, you should wash only with like colors or by itself. I also use 1/2 cup baking soda in my wash with the detergeant, to make sure everything gets scrubbed really well and my whites come out clean.
It's better to sort them, dark cloth not only bleed their color but , tend to have germ on them from outside, where ever you've been and what ever you've been doing. and cold water may not kill them.
Yes, it's possible. But I wouldn't take the chance unless the darker clothes were older and faded.
I would suggest you still wash the dark麓s with the dark麓s. Not all dye麓s are the same, best to save than sorry , But washing you clothes in cold water , make麓s them softer ,and they last longer, Lot麓s of hot sunshine for those white clothes, the sun bleaches them white, and remember to turn your colored clothes inside out whilst hanging them outside. This stop麓s the color from fading , with the heat of the sun
You save on hot water. Sort your clothes though.
If I have new dark clothing the first couple of washes I do them by themselves but after that I wash everything together in cold water and have been for years. Use a detergent that is meant for cold water wash or for all temperatures.

This not only saves money (hot water heater money/energy) but is also less harsh on your clothing. I also do not dry at a high heat but at medium.
Once they've been washed before, it should be okay. Wash any dark or vivid colors a few times before adding them to the collective wash.
My 87 year old father in law does it. Then again everything he owns in grey including this undershirts. I wouldn't do it, but hey what do I know.

Which was can be washed in cold water????

Help me please with fabric type in mind what type of fabric can be handwashed with cool water and in a mild detergent? (cotton, polyester, acrylic, etc..)Which was can be washed in cold water????
90% of fabrics can be washed in cold water! Some of those fabrics require a short-gentile cycle with NO bleach! Bleach will stain Polyester yellow! Acrylics demand no heat drying. Most printed undergarments need to be air-dryed after a soft-water wash in a soft-water solution. Nylon and satin knits respond excellent to softwater washes as well as silk fabrics. Air dry!Which was can be washed in cold water????
Any fabric should be fine but most garments have washing and care instructions on the label. If you have bought a length of fabric from a store than washing and care should have been on the price ticket/label too.

I do all me washing in cold water with a cold water detergent.

The only fabrics which will need special care are wool and silk.
