a top loader will take approx 30-35 gallons of water per wash and rinse cycle for a total of 60-70 gallons per wash. A front loader will use a lot less. 12-15 gallons per wash and rinse for a total of 24-30 gallons. This all depends on the size of the washing machine as smaller machines use less and larger mean more water. A bathtub now can really vary. Some will hold upwards of 50 gallons and it all depends on a lot of factors such as overflow drain level and style of tub.
