Pipes shudder when washing machine is filling with water. How do I fix?

When I open the cold tap in a faucet in a bathroom across the house from the laundry room...the shuddering is greatly reduced.

What is going on?Pipes shudder when washing machine is filling with water. How do I fix?
Water hammer is what the issue is. Every home has it. A home in our area, by code, should have no more than 80 PSI. IF it exceeds this, water hammer is increased. Dont try to call the water company, you can not fight city hall. With an increase of building they have to jump up the presure to handle those at the end of the line. If you are on a crawl or basement that has not been finshed out, you can start by insulating the pipes with armaflex between the pipe and the joist. Any quick closing valve like a clothes washer or dishwasher will cause a hammer. It rattles the pipes when the valve shuts off qucikly. If your plumbing is not exposed, you can have a plumber add a hammer arrestor on the washer and the dishwasher. This will help reduce or stop the hammer. If your psi is more than 80 then a pressure reducing valve is needed at your service line.Pipes shudder when washing machine is filling with water. How do I fix?
Too much pressure can cause ';water hammering.'; You can buy a small, cheap valve that allows air to escape. It involves cutting out a few inches of pipe and only works ok.

You can also pad or tighten any connections where the pipes come into contact with the wood of your floors / walls.

Check the washer tub. It is possble that you could ghav put the load of cthes into the was with the eight of wet clotghing Water weighs 11.9 pounds per gallon. Can you imagine all of that water soaked into your clothing wet.

Simply hit ther shut off button before opening the door for safety sake. Next simply chec k the clothing position in the tub. ASscertain ther the clothging is not unevely loaded in the tub. If so, redistirbute the wash load of clothing evenly. persiosts, get a measuring bibble carpenters level placiong in the appropriate top and sides, buble level of the washer to check if the washer was setup evenly locfted pon a solid supporting platfporm. If these do not work, as last resort. call a licensed experienced plumber. Consdider buying a new washer. I have and love Maytag (R) fofr 4 uyerars now.
it's called 'water hammer' not sure exactly why it happens, but it can usually be fixed by fitting a 'water hammer arrestor' on to the tap, then the hose onto that. You should be able too buy the arrestor at most hardware stores quite cheaply.
